WINONA LAKE - Grace College is to break ground on a new Orthopedic Capital Center today, beginning a $9.1 million project to construct a 60,000-square-foot community facility.
The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the center's site location on Wooster Road, north of the college's library.
Grace officials, executives from Zimmer, Biomet and Depuy, as well as Indiana Department of Environmental Management Commissioner Thomas Easterly, will be in attendance.
The community center is estimated to have seating for 2,200 and will be used for Grace sporting events, public concerts, business seminars and trade shows.
The first predicted event at the center will be Grace's May 2007 graduation, pending construction completion.
Prior to the groundbreaking, Grace converted an adjacent four-acre brownfield into a parking lot. Following IDEM regulations, the college will use a property that has been idle for more than 30 years.
