Oratorical Contest Winners AnnouncedWarsaw Breakfast Optimist Club announced the winners of its oratorical contest held March 22.
Eleven contestants competed with original five-minute speeches on the topic “Is There a Fine Line Between Optimism and Reality?”
One female and one male competitor advance to the regionals.
First-place speaker was Rachel Dempsey. She will compete at the regional level on April 14 in Goshen. For her local win, she received a Acer Chromebook.
Second place was Danielle Miner, who was presented with a Samsung tablet.
Third place went to Jason Benyousky. He will also compete in the Goshen regionals.
Hosting the event was Jeff Owens and judges were three students from Grace College. According to Owens, this was the largest number of competitors invited to the local contest. Each speaker was required to present a copy of their speech for the official timer to follow to ensure that the speech was given as written.
All of the competitors were invited to the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club regular meeting on April 10.
Competitors who continue to advance will be eligible for college scholarships.
