Kids will be able to see what it’s really like to be a police officer thanks to a program sponsored by The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club. The Annual Law Enforcement in Action Day is set for May 7 and will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is free to kids 6 to 16 and will start at the old Kosciusko County courthouse. The program’s theme is Respect For Law and is a combined effort between Kosciusko County Sheriff Rocky Goshert and Warsaw Police Department Chief Scott Whitaker as well as other agencies. The Optimists have been putting the program on for a number of years and Whitaker said its a great way for officers to connect with kids and show them what their job is really like. Whitaker also said he hoped it would help break down some pre-conceived notions kids may have about police. Among the demonstrations that will take place include a K-9 and SWAT presentation, weapons, defensive tactics, fingerprinting and kids can actually see a Taser gun in use. Kids will also receive a tour of the county jail and central dispatch. For more information on the event go to www.warsawoptimist.org
