The Breakfast Optimist Club is again sponsoring the Santa House this year.
Last year, more than 550 children visited with Santa. Each child received a candy cane and a photo with Santa. It is free.
The children were not the only ones seizing the opportunity. The Octagon Club, which is a high school group sponsored by the Optimist Club, will be assisting. They not only help decorate the Santa House, they also are Santa's helpers. Many of the Octagon members are bilingual, which is an opportunity for community members who speak other languages. Bilingual helpers will be present during most visits.
The Santa House is between Kmart and Hallmark. It will be open three weekends: Dec. 3-5, Dec. 10-12 and Dec. 17-19. Hours are Fridays, 6 to 8:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 4 to 8:30 p.m.; and Sundays 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The Breakfast Optimist Club serves the youth of the community and has about 90 members, who meet Wednesdays at 6:30 a.m. for breakfast.
Optimists also sell Christmas trees next to Owens. All of the proceeds of tree sales stay in the community. New members are welcome.
