With less than three weeks before Christmas, Santa Claus has arrived in town.
The Breakfast Optimist Club is sponsoring the Santa House again this year with free pictures for all children.
Last year, more than 500 children visited with Santa. Each child received a candy cane and a photo with Santa at no charge. Of course, children who weren't the only ones who took the time to tell Santa had good they had been all year.
The Octagon Club, which is a high school division of the Optimist Club, will assist as Santa's helpers this year.
Art Gakstatter donated 600 candy canes for Santa's House this year.
The Santa House is between Kmart and Hallmark. It will be open three weekends: Dec. 5-7, 12-14 and 19-21.
Hours are 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays; 2 to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
The Breakfast Optimist Club serves the youth of the community. With 130 members, the club meets at 6:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the Shrine building over breakfast.
The Breakfast Optimist Club sponsors dozens of activities and festivals throughout the year, including the Safe Assured Safety ID program, Art in the Park, Oratorical Contest, Winona Lake Triathlon, Spooktacular, Winona Lake Children's 4th of July Celebration and more.Optimists also sell Christmas trees next to Petro Brothers, near Wal-Mart. All of the proceeds of tree sales stay in in the community. Trees not sold are donated to those in need.
