Optimists Bring Santa To TownChildren will be able to find Santa Claus in two locations this year.
Once again, the Breakfast Optimist Club is sponsoring Santa's House. This year it will be at the courthouse for this weekend before moving to its traditional location.
Santa will start accepting visitors today at the courthouse location during First Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, the house will be open from 2 to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Santa's house then will move to its traditional location between Kmart and Hallmark for the remainder of the season. Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
The Octagon Club, which is a high school group sponsored by the Optimist Club, will assist again this year. The students will serve as Santa's helpers. Many of the Octagon members are bilingual.
Last year, more than 500 children visited with Santa. Each child received a candy cane and a photo with Santa. It was all free, and children weren't the only ones visiting with Santa. Parents had a few things to ask of Santa.
The Breakfast Optimist Club serves the youth of the community. Nearly 90 members meet every Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. for breakfast and a meeting.
The Santa's House project is organized by Jane Greene, Trina Hoy, Tammy Keirn, Cathy Mullett, Art Gakstatter and Angie Tom.
