MENTONE – Opal D. Nellans, 88, of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, and formerly of Warsaw and Mentone, died at 1:03 p.m. Dec. 1, 2012, in Grace Village Health Care. She was born Dec. 25, 1923, in Marshall County, to Delbert L. and Bessie H. Guise Wilson. On May 18, 1946, in Akron, she married Byron Nellans, who died Sept. 5, 1989. She was a homemaker and worked at Uniroyal Inc., Mishawaka, for 14 years. She was a longtime member of Mentone United Methodist Church. After moving to Warsaw in 1997, she joined Pleasant View Bible Church, Warsaw, where she was part of the Dorcus Circle. She was a charter member of Mentone American Legion Auxiliary, where she was a past president. She was a former member of the Dancing Grannies, Warsaw, and the Red Hat Society. Surviving are a daughter, Bonita Nellans, Warsaw; two sons, Byron Edward (and spouse Melba) Nellans, Marion, Iowa, and Brant E. (and spouse Shirley) Nellans, Winona Lake; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Peffley, Winona Lake. She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastors Ryan Petgen officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
