Only Pike Beach Closed

Enjoy the public beaches today.

All but one are open.

Kosciusko County Health Department Administrator Bob Weaver said this morning that Monday's Times-Union article about seven public beaches being closed was misleading.

Only Pike Lake beach is closed.

The beaches at Winona Lake, North Webster, Hoy's Landing, Center Lake, Syracuse Lake and Waubee Lake are all open and have not been closed.

The problems with E. coli levels at Pike Lake beach began last Monday. The health department found high levels on and off all last week and had to close the beach.

Tests taken Monday at the beach still indicate high E. coli and Pike Lake beach will remain closed today. The health department will continue to test the beach on a daily basis and will re-open the beach as soon as it is safe.

The health department tests all the public beaches in the county regularly, but does not close them during testing.
