This is a one-time response to my critics(?) fans(?) fellow citizens.
During the past several weeks, I have submitted several letters to our local newspapers. My purpose for doing so was not to engage in confrontation or a battle of wits with anyone. My goal was to hopefully present food for thought, opportunity to question and perhaps even topics for rational discussion. Many who have responded to my submissions quite obviously have tried to engage in that battle but have come unarmed.
When or if anyone chooses to respond to my letters, please do not put words in my mouth or assume to know what I “would say” about any individual, issue or situation. My initial letter some weeks ago called for the activation of a silent majority of citizens to think, to speak out, to shout out the truth loudly and frequently. I know these citizens exist as I have heard from them – mostly in private. My most fervent hope is that they will make their voices heard clearly and in vast numbers when it comes time to count those voices.
It is obvious that some folks who respond in print continue to pick and choose tidbits of information that are misleading at best or absolutely false at worst. I am begging anyone who responds to my letters – or anyone else’s – to please do your homework. Do a thorough exploration and examination of all the sources of your research. Do not distort or manipulate the truth, and please present the whole truth.
I support everyone’s right to present their opinions. I do not support anyone who presents opinions, misrepresentations, half truths, or lies as facts.
