CLAYPOOL -ÊA Claypool woman is dead after her sport utility vehicle hit a tree Saturday afternoon.
Thelma Compton, 61, of 2659 E. CR 800S, Claypool, was pronounced dead at Kosciusko Community Hospital shortly after being transported from the accident scene. Compton was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Compton was traveling north on Packerton Road at approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday when her 1992 Ford Explorer left the roadway and hit a tree.
Officials do not know why Compton's SUV left the road, and the accident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
The sheriff's department was assisted at the scene by South Central EMS, Life MED and the Silver Lake Fire Department.
