WAWASEE AT FAIRFIELD

Tipoff: 7:45 p.m. tonight at Goshen

Records: Wawasee 0-0; Fairfield 0-0

Coaches: Jerry Davis (Wawasee); Scott Miller (Fairfield)

Matchup: It will be the season opener for both teams. Wawasee returns four starters from last year's team and hopes to build on a 7-14 record in Jerry Davis' first season at the helm. Fairfield, on the other hand, will have to rely on a balanced attack after losing Jayme Mathews, a 20-plus scorer last year. Wawasee will have the height and experience advantage in this opener for both teams.

Game talk:

Davis: "We saw (Fairfield's) scrimmage. They are a team trying to learn to play without Mathews. They are very deep and will play a lot of players. We want to see how well we play defense and rebound. We must improve on that over last year. It is important for the young guys to get experience early in the year."

Miller: "(Wawasee) is very big and has quite a few kids back. The only kid they lost is Ryan Mikel. They still have (Brody) Stipp, (Jared) Mahnensmith and (Jay) Haugh. We're going to have to fight hard because we don't have size like they do. We want to see hustle and see kids getting after it defensively. We don't have a pure scorer on the perimeter so we're going to have to be aggressive in the post."
