MATCHUP: Triton ventures into the annual Culver Tournament with one of its best teams in awhile, but so do the other three teams in the field. All four teams in the field this year have winning records with Caston and Argos having only one loss this year. Culver Community is 3-2. Argos and Culver meet in the second game on Thursday. The consolation and championship is set for Friday. The Comets are the six-time defending champions of the tournament and come off a loss to Plymouth, as do the Trojans. Caston was tied with Plymouth at 42 in the fourth quarter before falling apart. Luke Zartman leads the Comets with 22 points per game.
GAME TALK:
O'Rourke... "We played a fairly solid game against Plymouth. We made our fair share of mistakes. We turned the ball over to much, and we allowed too many offensive rebounds. Those two areas caused us to not win the game. We shot the ball well, but we didn't play a complete game. If you are going to beat a team like Plymouth at their place, it takes more of a perfect game. ... It (the tourney title) is up for grabs this year. Caston has won it six straight years, but it would not be a big surprise to see any of the four teams win it. Caston has five returning starters back from last year. They really get up and down the floor. They really don't waste any time getting a shot off. They usually get a shot in their first or second pass of a possession, and it is usually a pretty good shot by a high-percentage shooter. We will try to pick them up quicker than teams have been doing. Hopefully, we will be able to pick up their main scorers. If they are going to get a quick shot, it will be one of the other players that haven't put up the big numbers so far."
Teagle... "Every team in the field has a good record and has been playing well. It should be the most competitive tournament since I have been here. They are really well-coached. Coach O'Rourke has done an outstanding job with them. They are well disciplined. He has five or six kids that are very quick off the dribble. That will be trouble for us because we are not a quick team. ... Taking care of the basketball against their defensive pressure will be big for us. We play fairly uptempo and like to get the ball and up and down the court and try to control the tempo. We haven't played too badly. We would hope not to play like the last six minutes against Plymouth."
