OMC Layoff Effect Minimal At Syracuse

WAUKEGAN, Ill. - Outboard Marine Corp. announced March 31 that it will cut 200 salaried employees.

Ted Hege, factory manager of OMC in Syracuse, said he did not expect the reduction to affect his facility. The Syracuse plant employs approximately 200 people.

OMC President and Chief Executive Officer David D. Jones said the reduction will apply to the company's operations worldwide.

Jones said earlier this year OMC cut approximately 340 jobs, which "helped to improve efficiencies within these facilities and reduce our costs. Today's actions will produce similar results throughout our remaining operations."
