Old Settlers Presentation Set For Downtown Days

Posted

The Old Settlers of Kosciusko County will tell how they settled the county during Warsaw's Downtown Days celebration.

The Old Settlers will relate how they survived near-starvation and deadly sickness to establish the towns and communities of Kosciusko County. Stories such as encounters with Indians and bears, pioneering, hard work and neighborly acts will be told by John Chapman, Peter Runyan, George Ryerson, James Frazer, Thomas Warner and others.

The presentation, written and produced by Sally Hogan and directed by Dana McAfee, involves a cast of 17 men who are from different parts of the county just as the Old Settlers were. General Reub Williams, who established the first successful newspaper in Warsaw in 1856, will act as the narrator.

Throughout the presentation will be old familiar songs that the Old Settlers sang in their homes, schools and churches. Songs like: "Cindy," "School Days," "Blest Be The Tie That Binds," "When You and I Were Young," "Maggie" and many more.

The Old Settlers will be relating their stories in a presentation at 7 p.m. July 21 and 4 p.m. July 23 in the old courtroom of the Kosciusko County Courthouse. Admission is $5 and tickets are available at the Jail Museum. For more information, call the Jail Museum at 269-1078.
