Old Jail Museum Announces New Hours for Tours

Posted
The Old Jail Museum, 121 N. Indiana St., Warsaw, is now open for tours and genealogy research Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Walk-in tours are available 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Group tours must be scheduled in advance. Tours on closed days are by appointment only.  Donations of any size are welcomed for tours.

There have been many changes to the Old Jail Museum in the past several months. The library has been remodeled to better serve researchers and also developed into an area for programs, workshops and events hosted by the Kosciusko County Historical Society.

A new full-time director, Sally Hogan, undertook her duties in April.

Used desks were given to the museum by Key Bank and new copiers and computers are now in operation thanks to the generosity of the Lawrence and Ruth Castaldi Family Trust.

During May, the museum will feature displays dedicated to veterans. War memorabilia from conflicts involving the United States will be displayed throughout the museum.

May is also a time of school tours.  Tours scheduled so far total more than 300 children.  New this year are stories written by Sally Hogan that illustrate how the county and Warsaw got its name and an argument among the artifacts as to who is the most important. The children go through the museum hunting for Chief Monoquet while learning of the history of the county. Teachers are given a packet of activities to extend the tour experience into the classroom.
