Old 30 Work Still On ScheduleCounty Highway Superintendent Dennis Pletcher told the county commissioners this morning that E & B Paving remains "agreeable" to what's expected of them in repairing parts of Old 30 east and west.
E & B Paving had originally done work on both sides of Old 30 but were derided by the commissioners, the highway department and residents for the end results.
After meeting with all interested parties, E & B Paving agreed to redo parts of the road laid out by the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Work is scheduled to begin in early June.
Also during the commissioners meeting, Pletcher opened up bids for the replacement of a bridge on Country Club Road near CR 400S.
The engineer's estimate for the project is $361,720.50.
Pletcher opened up three bids then met with representatives from those firms.
Commissioner Ron Truex said his hope is to soon present an application to the Lakeland Regional Sewer District to expand its scope to create a countywide sewer district.
The LRSD next meets June 3 at the North Webster Community Center.
Truex said it was important to be thorough in the process.
"There is no hurry to get this done," said Truex. "I'd rather do it right than do it fast."
Commissioner Bob Conley gave an update on the census. Conley acknowledged that the sheriff's department was investigating someone impersonating a census worker. Conley said it's the only report the sheriff's department has received.
Conley said when census workers come to homes they will have proper identification as well as an 800 number residents can dial to verify the worker is legitimate.
Hoping to have it ready for the upcoming First Friday event in Warsaw, County Administrator Ron Robinson was given permission to move a room full of old file cabinets and desks out to put on sale.
Conley suggested the items be ready to sell for the First Friday event June 4.
Robinson said he would attempt to have the items ready to sell by then.
The items will be on sale in the sheriff's department's parking lot.
Per Robinson's request, the commissioners approved allowing Tom Brindle, from the dispatch center, to sign an agreement with Indigital Telecom that Robinson said would save the county $20,000.
James Whitaker, who owns several properties in Woodfield Estates near Warsaw, asked for a cul-de-sac in the neighborhood to be repaired.
Whitaker said that the cul-de-sac was previously chip sealed but over time has fallen into disrepair.
The commissioners told Whitaker that the policy of the county is to not do more to a subdivision road than what was done to it originally.
But since the cul-de-sac was originally chip sealed, the commissioners asked Pletcher to chip and seal the cul-de-sac.
At the beginning of the meeting, commissioner Brad Jackson recognized an Ad Hoc committee that was formed to help the county save money.
Members of that committee are Greg Rauen, John Davis, Jerry Black and Jim Beehler.
Jackson said the county will soon make some of the committee's recommendations available.
