The Oakwood Cemetery staff has finished spring cleanup, according to sexton David Shaw. Grave blankets have been removed and 25 foundations have been dug, ready for cement when the temperature is warm enough.
The Oakwood Board of Regents heard Shaw's report and reviewed a landscape project on Lot 21, Block 69. The board approved plantings of dwarf Alberta spruce and Densi yews on the 20-foot by 10-foot area that comprises four lots.
Shaw said deer shouldn't eat the foliage and the headstones will be placed flush with the ground to make maintenance easy. A small park bench also is part of the design.
Board president Bob Sandy handed out a newspaper clipping showing 60 headstones recently turned over in a New Haven cemetery.
In other business, the board discussed real estate negotiations with a property owner who has land adjacent to the cemetery. The property owner decided not to sell the land this year.
The board also signed nine property deeds for lots.
Board members are Bob Sandy, Warren Tatter and Ellen Hoffer. Lewis Dobbins and city council representative Trish Brown were absent.
