Discussion continued Thursday on the possibility of renting out the chapel at Oakwood Cemetery during the Board of Regents meeting.
Renting out the chapel has been discussed by the board for the past couple months. Sexton Hal Heagy brought up the subject to help bring in more money to the cemetery and get more use out of the chapel.
Thursday, Heagy said he has talked to Warsaw Mayor Jeff Grose and Heagy wanted to come back to the board for some clarification before he talked to city attorney Scott Reust. Heagy asked what the board was thinking of when it came to small groups renting out the building, whether it was quantity or something else.
Board member Ellen Hoffer asked what the capacity of the chapel is. Heagy said it’s 230 people, but there’s not enough seating for 230.
He clarified they were talking about opening the chapel up for small church, business and similar groups.
He will call Reust and try to set up a meeting. If there’s any questions during that conversation, Heagy will come back to the board with those questions.
Heagy said the chapel isn’t used very often, so he’s hoping to get more use out of it if Grose and Reust are OK with the idea.
In other business, the board heard:
• Seven loads of wood were given away through the wood giveaway program in January.
• A break room for staff will be built in an area of the cemetery office garage.
• A new furnace will be installed in the cemetery office, possibly in the spring.
