Oakwood Recommends Increases In Fees

Posted

Lot prices in Oakwood Cemetery will increase by 25 percent if recommendations approved Thursday are OK'd by the Warsaw City Council.

Other rates will increase across the board, too, according to the board of regents.

Currently Warsaw residents pay $200 for lots and nonresidents pay $300. New fees would be $250 for residents and $350 for nonresidents (see chart).

Other increases include lots in the cremation garden. Spaces ranging from 10.5 to 11.125 square feet would be $75 for residents and $90 for nonresidents; from 14 square feet to 16.9 square feet - $100 for residents and $120 for nonresidents; and from 17.5 square feet to 22.5 square feet - $125 for residents to $150 for nonresidents with an additional $70 per lot for foundations.

Sexton David Shaw recommended the rate hike last month to bring the cemetery prices in line with other cemetery fees in the region.

Shaw said decorations not fitting the graveyard's specifications are held in the garage until fall cleanup and that crews have been mowing in the rain the last couple of weeks.

President Warren Tatter commented that the Oakwood Chapel dedication went well.

Nineteen deeds for cemetery lots were signed.

The next board meeting will be July 5 at 5 p.m. in the administrative building.

Cemetery board members are president Warren Tatter, Bob Sandy, Ellen Hoffer, Lewis Dobbins and Trish Brown.
