Oakwood Chapel Ready For Use

The Oakwood Memorial Chapel is ready for use at Oakwood Cemetery, cemetery board members heard Thursday.

Sexton David Shaw said there are little things to finish at the more than 2,000-square-foot chapel.

The building will serve as a substitute to graveside services during inclement weather and will accommodate 245 people.

Board president Warren Tatter said it was a "real nice addition to the cemetery."

A dedication date will be announced.

The board approved a motion to limit the last service held in the chapel to begin at 2 p.m.

An anonymous criticism was published regarding walkers and joggers along the cemetery lanes. A mourner wrote that she thought their presence was disrespectful.

"There's no way I'd ever ban that," Tatter said of the exercisers.

Secretary Ellen Hoffer commented the cemetery is one of the safest places for people.

Shaw said his crew members are told of any suspicious activities by the alert exercisers.

Tatter said motorcycles, skate boards and roller blades are banned from the cemetery.

Five burial plot deeds were signed and the next meeting was set for March 1 at 5 p.m. in the administration building.

Cemetery board members are Tatter, Bob Sandy, Hoffer, Lewis Dobbins and Trish Brown.
