NORTH WEBSTER – Now in her fourth year in the North Webster Community Center, Cake Lady owner Peggy Roulo is happy to be able to cater the annual fundraiser to keep the lights on. Roulo will provide the meal for the Oct. 4 raffle and live and silent auction, with hundreds of items up for bid and auctioneering services by Hahn Auctioneers Inc. The event is from 5 to 9 p.m. in the community center gym. Tickets are $20, which includes entry in the raffle for a chance at prizes including a car from The Car Company; a pontoon from Main Channel Marina; motorcycle from Burkes Repo Outlet; UTV from Loose Moose Motorsports; or $10,000. Other prizes are $200 in groceries per month for a year from New Market and $100 in gas per month for a year from Freedom Express. Roulo said she’s happy for the chance to give back as part of the NWCC community. “My donation to the NWCC fundraiser is in quality and service above and beyond the cost of the meal,” she said. She said she moved into the center after they approached her while she was considering starting her own business. “They approached me, we tried it, and it was a good fit,” she said. “They have an amazing kitchen here, I can do a lot of damage, (and) the people are nice, there’s a lot of interaction with the other businesses in the facility.” Other tenants in the center include the North Webster Community Library, the Kosciusko Community YMCA and the Senior Primelife Enrichment Center. Roulo also noted that while she’s happy to use a building that’s part of local history, it does need a lot of upkeep. “We (were) chasing leaks all day” during heavy rain Wednesday, said center Program Coordinator Janna Braden. Braden said they need to increase their proceeds by at least 15 percent over last year, when they kept $74,800 of the $120,000 the sold-out auction raised. Tickets for the auction are available at the NWCC office; SPEC; Ace Hardware; New Market; American Legion; Freedom Express; Lake City Bank; Loose Moose Motorsports; A.K. Hare; Java Cottage; Golden Mermaid; Laura Eyer Massage & Spa; Jill & Jennifer’s Salon; Sue’s Creations; Ye Olde Pub; and Sleepy Owl Supper Club in Syracuse and Countryside Antiques in Larwill. Sheila’s Sweet Treats in North Webster will be selling tickets this weekend only.
