"Nunsense" centers around the Sisters of Hoboken who discover they have a problem. Their cook, Sister Julia - Child of God, accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters in the convent.
In desperate need for funds to bury their dearly departed, the sisters decide to put on a variety talent show. The nuns set out to raise the funds needed by providing the talent themselves in an energetic musical display that will have the entire family laughing.
Heading up the talent pool is Reverend Mother Mary Regina, a former circus performer, who will be played by Chicago-based and Warsaw native Beckie Menzie. Menzie has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as well as concert halls around the country.
Sister Mary Amnesia, a hysterical nun who has lost her memory as a result of a crucifix falling on her head, will be played by Jennie Sophia. Sophia played Fiona in this season's production of "Brigadoon" as well as playing many other Wagon Wheel leading ladies in "Cinderella" "Guys & Dolls" and "Oklahoma!"
The concept that began in greeting cards became a successful off-Broadway show in 1985. "Nunsense" musicals now appear in several versions, have grossed more than $300 million, and have been translated into 26 languages.
"Nunsense" is the perfect summer confection for catholics and non-catholics alike, as long as you have a funny bone to tickle and a love for good old-fashioned entertainment.
