Nunez Presented Garber Award

Described as a quiet kid, Michael Nunez has let his talent and attitude – both on and off the baseball diamond – do his talking.
Monday evening, he was rewarded for it, as Warsaw Little League President Lance Leeper presented him with the Garber Award.
The Garber Award, named for former Warsaw Parks Superintendant Avery “Pat” Garber, has been presented annually since the 1960s.
The award is presented each year to a 15-year-old who has participated in the Warsaw Little League for seven consecutive seasons.
The recipient of the award, according to a release from Leeper, should possess good baseball skills and also demonstrate sportsmanship and positive attitude on and off the field.
“I’ve known Michael since 2008,” said Leeper. “I’ve watched him grow up out here (at Warsaw Little League Park). He’s a quiet kid. He supports his teammates, and you never hear a negative comment come out of his mouth. He’s a great kid that comes from a great family.”
Nunez, a soon-to-be freshman at Warsaw Community High School, is the son of Mark and Martha Nunez and has two older siblings, Nick and Katrina.
Nunez began playing in the Warsaw Little League in 2008, playing for the minor league A’s. This past season he played for the A’s in the senior minors.
“I didn’t even know this was an award last week,” said Nunez, who pitches and plays short stop. “The league has a lot of kids. This makes it more personal.”
