Not All Change Is Good

Editor, Times-Union:
I had always called myself an “Independent” voter, who picked a Democrat most of the time. I respect the values for ordinary people, instead of trusting “trickle down.” I’ve lived in Republican strongholds since childhood, and I got along with people who had different political beliefs. Voting was private and sometimes I chose Republicans.
Then, Trump came along and I’m still reeling at the change. People are now political “enemies” instead of opponents and for millions of Republicans, including women, it was OK for their leader to brag about grabbing women’s “private parts” at will. I found that fact alone astounding. Since then, the list of things they allow him to do and say has only gotten worse.
Where did all those sturdy, honorable Republican values go? It saddens me to lose the ability to discuss our differences instead of being fearful of one another.
