INDIANAPOLIS - Of the seven local individuals that swam in Friday's preliminary round of the state finals at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, only one qualified for Saturday's round of competition.
NorthWood's Julia Warnken will compete in today's championship race in the 100 butterfly after she finished with a sixth-best time of 58.84 seconds. The fastest time in the 100 butterfly was 56.67 seconds.
Warnken qualified to swim in the consolation race of the 200 individual medley after swimming a time of 2:09.50.
The top eight swimmers advance to the championship. The next eight fastest are put into the consolation round.
Local swimmers who failed to advance past the preliminary round include Wawasee's Laura Karns who swam a time of 25.74 seconds in the 50 freestyle. A time of 24.89 seconds was the slowest to advance to Saturday's 50 freestyle consolation.
Warsaw's Katie Beehler ended her season after she failed to advance in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.09. The slowest time slated for Saturday's consolation race in the backstroke is 1:00.63.
Tippecanoe Valley's Amber Drudge missed the cut for the consaliton race in the 100 freestyle by 3.11 seconds. Drudge swam a time of 57.26 seconds.
Valley's 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams of Hilary Vanlaningham, Kyleigh Gast, Alyssa Anglin and Drudge are done for the season. The quartet swam times of 1:46.70 in the 200 freestyle relay and 3:56.26 in the 400 freestyle relay.
Championship and consolation races begin today at 9 a.m.
