Northenor Named To Lugar Panel

Lake City Bank executive Jean Northenor has been named to a recommendation committee to appoint Indiana's U.S. attorneys and U.S. marshals as requested by U.S. Senator Dick Lugar.

Indiana has northern and southern judicial districts with one U.S. attorney and marshal in each. Lugar makes recommendations for appointments to the Bush administration.

"I had a call from Lee McNeely (chairman of the committee) saying the senator had asked me to serve," Northenor said this morning. "Of course any time Lugar asks me to do something he sees as a help to government, I'm pleased to serve."

Northenor has known Lugar, the only five-term Hoosier senator, since his years as mayor of Indianapolis.

When she was county auditor, Northenor worked with the senator and his staff regarding legislation and other items being brought before Congress that might affect county government.

"We have just a great friendship," she said of the statesman. "He's a brilliant man, a Rhodes Scholar, yet you can sit down and talk to him and it is like visiting an old friend."

In addition to Northenor, the Federal Merit Selection Advisory Committee comprises Lee McNeely, a Shelbyville attorney, chairman for the northern district; James Richmond, a Chicago attorney and former Indiana Northern District U.S. attorney; David Bobilya, a Fort Wayne businessman; Robert Hiler, a LaPorte businessman; Seth Linfield, a South Bend attorney; and Ron Johnson, a Crown Point youth minister.

Northenor said she knows about half of the committee members and looks forward to meeting the others.

Applications are being accepted for U.S. marshal and U.S. attorney. Interested person may contact Sen. Dick Lugar, Attn. Federal Merit Selection Advisory Committee, 1180 Market Tower, 10 W. Market St., Indianapolis, IN 46204.

Lugar embarks on his fifth term as U.S. senator this year, the only Hoosier to be elected to five terms as senator.
