NORTH WEBSTER – Installing a sidewalk between the community center and post office would cost at least $70,000, council heard Tuesday. Rick Pharis, with Triad Associates Inc., said 1,300-foot-long, five-foot-wide sidewalk along Ind. 13 would cost between $70,000 and $80,000. There would have to be 20 ADA-compliant ramps along the sidewalk, he noted, and there are additional challenges because it would be along a state highway. He gathered the figures after Utilities Superintendent Mike Noe said at the last meeting that he was asked about installing a sidewalk along Ind. 13 from the North Webster Community Center to the U.S. Post Office. Council members expressed surprise at the figure Tuesday. “What? To go past the cemetery to the post office?” asked council member Tim Hines. Council President Jon Sroufe observed that while a sidewalk would be good to have, the location represents a difficult problem. Pharis also told council that installing curbs along Ind. 13 in front of the American Legion post, also asked about last month, would be another challenge because of concerns such as obstructing snowplows. He suggested the Legion instead install light posts to highlight the entrance. Also Tuesday, council: • Approved the transfer next year of $50,000 from the County Economic Development Income Tax fund to the General Fund. • Set a year-end meeting for Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. • Heard that town offices will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2.
