NORTH WEBSTER – North Webster Town Council reorganized during its first meeting of the year Tuesday.
The council approved Dan Thystrup as president for 2023, Jack Birch as town attorney, Greg Church as town marshal and Dave May as detective sergeant.
The council also approved memberships for the town to be in for 2023, which were the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers, Accelerate Indiana Municipalities and Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police.
In other business, the council:
• Heard from Mike Noe, Inframark project manager, two of the pumps at one of the lift stations failed. A spare pump was put in. The council approved for Noe to order two new pumps at $7,728 each for the station.
• Heard from Church the police department is still looking for new officers.
• Heard from Thystrup he has a hearing with the Indiana Department of Transportation Thursday about the trail from the town of North Webster to Wawasee Middle School. He said he hopes to get grant money toward the trail.
• Agreed to wait for the second round of Community Crossings grants this year to apply for a grant to pave streets in town.
Rick Pharis, with Triad, said the town hadn’t even started last year’s project, which will start in February or March.
Councilwoman Lisa Strombeck said she believes most of the streets the town wants to pave with the grant will be covered with the grant they received last year.
• Heard from Clerk-Treasurer Leigh Anne Jessop that she talked with the state about state and federal regulations for a website for the town.
Jessop said numbers are being crunched of what it would take to get a website together and have everything archived and compliant as needed. She said she wants to see what is doable for the town in regards to a website.
