NORTH WEBSTER – Having a bike trail in North Webster is closer to becoming reality as Town Council President Dan Thystrup announced Tuesday the town received a $200,000 K21 Health Foundation grant.
Thystrup said the project to create a bike trail and sidewalks from the town of North Webster to Wawaseee Middle School would cost $2.5 million. The town would be responsible for paying for 25% of that and the state would pay the rest.
Thystrup said during the Council meeting he just found out the town was approved for what it wanted to do with the grant.
After the meeting, Thystrup said the Council is working on getting other grants for the remainder of the $500,000 the town is responsible for.
After April’s Town Council meeting, Thystrup said a committee in Syracuse working on the trails will have a trail on their end meet at the middle school.
In other business, the Board:
• Approved the town’s comprehensive plan.
Kosciusko County Area Plan Assistant Director Matt Sandy said the plan was a road map and not a regulatory guide map.

• Was reminded by Police Chief Greg Church the Mermaid Festival starts today.
• Approved the appointment of Marilyn Castle to the North Webster Library Board.
• Learned from Inframark Utilities Manager Jayne Alger the street department is cleaning up damage from a recent storm.
The department is also going to clean up the streets today around where the Mermaid Festival is.
• Learned there will be a budget workshop at 4:30 p.m. July 11 at the Town Hall annex building.
