North Webster Public Library Honors Veterans

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER - The North Webster Community Public Library has on display a veterans tree.

Pictures of local veterans are decorated with red, white and blue and with reminders of their time of service.

One ornament honors four cousins who served in World War II. Another honors a Vietnam veteran who served two tours of duty. A 99-year-old veteran placed his own ornament on the tree. He will soon turn 100.

This tree serves to remind everyone why Americans enjoy so many freedoms and why Americans are truly thankful at this time of year.

Speaking of freedoms, the library invites the community in to take advantage of all the free materials, and the library has many free programs as well.

Henry Winkler, who played The Fonz on the television show "Happy Days," recalled his lines from the show: "Hey, Ritchie, you can get a library card, and they're free." He then noted that library cards issued after this remark went up 500 percent in the U.S. Your library card could be your best friend in these troubling economic times. Check out our many free programs, too, such as Family Movie Night each month. Even the popcorn is free.

As you are shopping for bargains, don't forget the library's rummage sale Nov. 20-22 and the bake sale Nov. 22. If anyone would like to donate items for the rummage sale, take them to the library by Nov.18. Bake sale items may be dropped off on Nov. 21. The proceeds from these sales go to charity. The library's book sale is Dec. 4-6. Also, from Nov. 17-22, the library is having "food for fines" week. For each non-perishable item donated, $1 will be removed from your fine total. If you have any overdue items, this would be a great time to get those back to the library for others to enjoy.
