NORTH WEBSTER - The North Webster Community Public Library has been extremely busy this fall and is offering many programming choices in the next few months.
If you haven't visited the Community Center location lately, stop in and see the many services the library has to offer. NWCPL now has a library newsletter, "The Lily Pad Press," which is a monthly publication. Stop in and pick up a copy and check out the new materials and calendar of events.
During National Library Month in September, the library signed up 274 new members. A total of 153 students signed up for a library card through a collaborative contest held with the North Webster Elementary School. Three classes won a pizza party by having every student own a library card. As the library empties the book drops each morning, employees realize how much the community is reading. Patrons check out movies and other materials as well, but the drops abound with books.
The children's department hosts Toddler Time twice a month and Story Time every week. The children have been busy hearing stories and making fall crafts. Teen programs are scheduled the first and third Mondays of every month at 6 p.m. Upcoming program for November is "Chocolate!" program Nov. 17. Food and drinks are provided at these programs by local businesses.A very successful Halloween party was held Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Approximately 70 people attended and most were in full costume. Games, prizes and refreshments were provided and many books were checked out as the children left.
The Local History and Genealogy Center includes such programs as the Glean Team, a small group of experienced and working genealogists who meet weekly. They will meet Nov. 5, 12 and 19 from 9 to 11 a.m.
The Genealogy Round Table is held every other month and welcomes anyone interested in researching and studying their family history. New Web sites, old standards, problems, etc. are discussed. They will meet next Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Writer's Corner meets monthly. Everyone contributes an idea to the idea jar and then draw for the topic. No one is obligated to share writings, but most do. This is a fun group no matter what the experience level. They will meet Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The LH@GC is in need of help in locating yearbooks to complete its collection. North Webster High School Troy Yearbooks are needed for anything prior to 1948 plus 1949, 1950, 1952, 1959 and 1965. Wawasee High School Legend Yearbooks for the years 1978-1983 and 1985-2006 are also needed. Contact the library if you can help in this search.
