NORTH WEBSTER – It’s going to get “freaky” this Halloween in North Webster. The 2013 theme for The A-Maz-Ing Haunted House at the North Webster Lions Festival Grounds is “Freak Show.” “Think carnival. Think circus. Think PT Barnum,” said Jay Johnson, Boy Scout leader, Lions Club member and “head spook.” The North Webster Lions Club and North Webster Boy Scout Troop 726 put on the haunted house every year. This is the 23rd year for it, and the seventh year it’s being held at the North Webster Lions Festival Grounds, Johnson stated. The scary maze will be open each night 6:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 25-26, 31 and Nov. 1-2. Admission is $5, ages 6 and older. The Oct. 31 haunted house is in conjunction with the North Webster Haunting Night and the fire department’s Halloween festivities. “Inside we have Webster mermaids and mermen, the bearded lady, carnie kitchen, the bunk house – with real dummies, fake dummies and dead dummies – coffins full of spirits. We have all the freak shows – Siamese twins, short and tall, fat and skinny,” Johnson listed. People will get their passes at the “Scream Office,” Johnson said as he provided a tour of the haunt. Space between the ticket office and the maze building will be decorated. A real semi with a mad clown driver will be parked between the two buildings. Visitors have to pass it and the carnie cemetery, into the Zombie Master’s introductory tent. A 10-foot by 20-foot fly buzzes above as the tent roof. The Master will give visitors some advice on the ins and outs of the maze. As visitors walk through the very foggy facility, they will notice the Horrible Hobo Hotel, which happens to be a jail. In the barrel room are freaks doing their tricks. The hallways are narrower this year, and some doors lead to ... nowhere! Visitors will have to cross the broken bridge on their way to the Last Aid room (instead of First Aid). The carnie doctor will be taking off limbs for future use. Guests then enter the Carnival Camp Kitchen and walk over Hell & Dale. Passing through three doors, visitors find the bunk house where carnies have been bunking for generations, Johnson explained. After passing some “flying acrobats, acroskeletons and other creatures,” guests then will see Sparky the Carnival Electrician. There’s live bodies in the upright coffins to scare even the brave. A spirit hallway leads to a totally dark tunnel where every three feet there will be something eerie to walk through. Rogue clowns will be caught in a cage, but they don’t like to behave themselves. After walking through the turning terror room, there’s Freak Show Alley. Visitors will pass the rogue clown cage again become coming into the circus parlor where the circus family relaxes. Some in spirit only. All circuses and carnivals have animals. The A-Maz-Ing Freak Show is no different, only it has rabid dogs, a giant serpent and a pulsating ghostly polar bear. The scares end where they began - with a bloody semi driver. So get your freak on and visit this year’s Haunted House – if you dare!
