NORTH WEBSTER – North Webster Council gave the 2013 budget a first reading and opened bids for street repaving Tuesday.

The total advertised budget for next year is $1,297,554. Council will hold an adoption hearing Oct. 4 at 8 a.m.

And members opened three bids for fall street repaving. API Construction Corp. bid $99,452.50; Niblock Excavating Inc. bid $97,583.25; and Phend & Brown Inc. bid $97,796.75.

“You could throw a dart at it,” Council President Jon Sroufe remarked on the closeness of the bid amounts.

Utilities Manager Mike Noe will review the bids and make a recommendation to council at a special meeting Friday at 8 a.m.

Streets slated for patching and drainage improvements are Center, Fourth, the east edge of Washington from Ind. 13 to Lake, and Mullberry from Washington to Madison. Noe said he hopes to have the work done by Nov. 2.

Council also set a date for town trick-or-treating of Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. at the suggestion of Police Chief Greg Church.
