North Webster Earns Books Through Fundraiser

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER - North Webster Elementary students recently participated in a "Reach for the Stars" fundraiser and the school earned more than 700 Usborne Books for students and teachers to keep.

Students pledged to read 300 minutes over a period of two weeks. While reading, students gathered pledges from friends and family members to sponsor their reading. More than $7,500 was collected.

Fifty percent of what each student collected was spent by that student on their own Usborne Books to keep. Thirty percent of what each student collected was given to their teacher to spend on Usborne Books for the classroom. Twenty percent went in the form of cash to the PTFO, who sponsored the fundraiser.

Kids who were unable to collect money were still able to participate by reading books. Several classes logged more than 25,000 minutes.

Pizza parties were earned by the class that collected the most money and the class that read the most minutes. Winners were Mrs. Atwood's first-grade class for money and Mrs. L. Jones' third-grade class for minutes. If your school or group (club, homeschool co-op, preschool) is interested in doing the "Reach for the Stars" fundraiser, call Usborne Educational consultant, Kristin Bonner, at 574-834-3064.

Usborne Books also gives 50-percent matching grants through their Literacy for a Lifetime" program. Groups gather pledges from area businesses and Usborne will match the amounts by 50 percent.
