North Webster Denies Alley Vacation

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER – Town council Tuesday denied an alleyway vacation request that stemmed from a dispute over tree planting.
Council voted two to three against the request to vacate 32 feet of alleyway at the southwest corner of Dixie Drive and Effie Mae Street.
Dixie Drive resident Doug Brinegar said the request arose from a dispute over tree planting and property lines between him and neighbor Robert Phillippe.
Attorney Steve Snyder presented the request, saying it would pose no interference with future development of the town. But councilmen Jon Sroufe and Tim Hine opposed the vacation, on the grounds that the town doesn’t know that it won’t need to use the alleyway in the future.
“I don’t see any advantage to us. If they want to plant vegetation or anything, fine – they don’t need the deed,” Hine said, later adding that he wanted to ensure if the town needed the alleyway, it’s there.
The neighbors left the meeting after the vote to discuss the dispute and find a resolution.
Also Tuesday, council set a workshop for the 2015 budget for July 30 at 8 a.m. in the town hall.
