NORTH WEBSTER – The North Webster Town Council conducted its final business of 2011 this morning. The council approved allowing clerk-treasurer Betsy Luce to transfer budget funds to allow for a payment to Severn Trent, the company in charge of the town’s utilites, and to pay the town’s sewer bill that covers town hall and park. The council also approved encumbering funds to purchase a new police car. The town approves $18,000 each year for police vehicles. This allows the money appropriated in 2011 to be used for the purchase in 2012. The town, citing new regulations, also transfered $100,000 from its Economic Development Income Tax fund to the general fund for 2012. Town appointments, namely keeping Greg Church as town marshal, were also approved. Church will also see a 4-percent pay increase in 2012 while other officers and the police department’s secretary will see a 3-percent pay increase. No benefits were added for any town employee. The council also raised the starting wage for a deputy from $35,000 to $38,000. The council once again approved an additional appropriation of $1,000 per quarter to donate to the Animal Welfare League. The donation, is in part, to help with animal control help the town receives. The council also aproved renewing membership into several organizations like the Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns. North Webster Town Council members are Jon Sroufe, Tim Hine and Lisa Strombeck.
