North Manchester Public Library Offers Workshop

NORTH MANCHESTER - The North Manchester Public Library's final workshop of the Dealing With Emotions writing series will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

"Happiness," this assumed end of the human quest lies at the heart of many universal philosophies and human endeavors. What is happiness, really? How does one "achieve" it? How does it compare to contentment? Dr. Beate Gilliar will lead the exploration of these questions in the Blocher Community Room. The workshop is free. Register at the library's main desk, or by calling the library at 260-982-4773.

North Manchester Public Library, Timbercrest Senior Living Community and Peabody Retirement Community are sponsoring historical actress Sandra Hansen, who will provide two performances of an original one-woman touring play, "Kate's Pants," a light-hearted overview of women's history. Amelia Bloomer, Sojourner Truth and Elizabeth Cady Stanton parade through a 14-year-old girl's bedroom as she reaches for an understanding of social customs and women's role in history. Both performances will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. at Peabody Home and 7 p.m. at Timbercrest Senior Living Center. The general public is invited to attend either free performance.

Children's department visitors can take part in the "Whale of a Good Time" guessing contest. Guesses can be made on each library visit throughout May. The guessing contest is a special lead up to the "A Whale of a Good Time" Summer Reading Program, which begins the last day of school.

Miss Peabody's Pets and Books Photo Contest entries are on display in the children's department. Vote for your favorite photos through May 15.

Summer Storytimes will begin June 4-5 and continue through July 9-10. Children ages 3-7 will enjoy 30 minutes of games, stories, crafts and snacks. The activities will center around the Wonderful World of Color. Sign up in the children's department or by calling the library at 260-982-4773.
