North Manchester Public Library Offers Library Cards

Posted
NORTH MANCHESTER - Beginning May 15, students of Manchester Community Schools who live outside of the North Manchester Public Library's taxing district may apply for a special student library card.

The student cards will allow non-resident K-12 students to check out library materials they may need for homework, reports and supplementary reading.

State law allows libraries to offer a student card to area non-resident students enrolled in local public school corporations. At the March 13 board meeting, North Manchester Public Library Board of Trustees voted to institute a student library card. The student card, which has an annual fee of $15, is for the individual use of the MCS student only; and the student must be present when items are checked out.

Any item in the library may be checked out on the student card with the exception of videos and DVDs. Non-resident family cards will continue to be available for an annual fee of $100.

When applying for a student card, the student must be present and proof of enrollment in the Manchester Community Schools must be shown. Examples of proof of enrollment include a recent enrollment receipt, a recent report card or a current school ID.

The North Manchester Public Library offers its facility as a community center of activity and information, and strives to provide the materials, programs, and services necessary to meet the recreational and educational needs of the community of North Manchester.
