AKRON – Norman L. Tinkey, 82, Akron, died at 8:05 a.m. April 11, 2014, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, after being in failing health for a period of time. He was born Dec. 9, 1931, in Claypool, to Clarence L. and Leo A. Jones Tinkey. On Sept. 2, 1950, at the Akron Church of the Brethren, he married Rozella M. Holloway, who survives in Akron. He was an independent insurance agent as well as a real estate broker. Prior to that he worked at Sonoco Products Company of Akron. He was a 1949 graduate of Burket High School. He was a member of the Akron Church of the Brethren where he was deacon and trustee and property as well as a Sunday school teacher. He also was a past member of the Akron Lions Club and the Akron Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed fishing, part-time farming, mushroom hunting and spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two daughters, Lana (and spouse Fred) Bowser and Tana M. Tinkey, both of Akron; a son Byron (and spouse Christine) Tinkey, Akron; four grandchildren: Brent (and spouse Aryn) Bowser, Alyssa and Travis Ramsey, LéErick Bowser and Jonathan L. Tinkey; five great-grandchildren: Dixie, Benjamin, Maison, Ella and Abbygaile; two sisters, Peggy (and spouse Garwin) Eaton, Mentone, and Shirley (and spouse Larry) Polk, Leesburg; and a brother, Merl (and spouse Linda) Tinkey, Akron. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard John Tinkey, and a great-grandchild, Prim Ramsey. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Akron Church of the Brethren, 212 S. Maple St., Akron, with Pastor David Hendry officiating. Burial is in Akron Cemetery.
