CLAYPOOL – Non-metered water users in Claypool will now receive the same rate reduction as metered users. An ordinance that passed during the March meeting of the Claypool Town Council mandated that metered users would pay a base rate for the first 1,000 gallons of water, and $.00332 per each additional gallon used. At Tuesday’s meeting, the board passed an ordinance that gives non-metered users a 1,000 gallon exemption. These users will now pay $3.22 less per month, which will bring their base rate down to $53.15. During discussions about water and sewer rates and charges, board member David Dills brought up a question about current meter system. “When the new system was put in, you were supposed to be able to sit in the truck and read the meters with the gun. Why is he getting out of the truck,” Dills asked about the meter reader. The board will meet with the utility supply company to figure out why this feature has not been working. In other business: -Claypool resident Jerry Creekmore stood before the board to request the town to vacate a street which is no longer in use. Creekmore has been working on the house at 304 Railroad Street for four years to bring the house up to code. Creekmore recently finished replacing an old deck, and the new deck is built on the foundation of the old one. However, after railings were built on the deck, Creekmore was notified that he was in violation because the structure is on town property. “Well, you need to have a public hearing and publish it in the newspaper,” Board President Don Miller said.
