BREMEN – Noble D. Carpenter, 72, Warsaw, passed away April 7, 2015, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 14, 1942, in Plymouth, to Erma Lucille Reaker and Harley Meredith Carpenter. On Dec. 29, 1974, he married Carol Haid Lanman, who survives.
He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Charles H. King, in Lapaz, where he graduated from Lapaz High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1961 to 1968.
After joining the Plymouth Jaycees, he went on to become the state president of the Indiana Jaycees from 1972 to 1973. During his administration, the Indiana Jaycees enjoyed their highest membership of over 12,000 members. While president and working with various states, he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel, an honorary North Carolina Tar Heel, an honorary citizen of Tennessee and an aide de camp, governor’s staff, of the State of Louisiana. He then went on to become a JCI senator, and was actively involved his entire life. After his marriage, he and Carol moved to Warsaw, where he began his affiliation with Indiana Restaurant Equipment Corp. as a sales agent. He retired in 2010.
He was an avid sportsman, playing and umpiring men’s softball, achieving three holes-in-one in his golf career and becoming a certified professional ski instructor, teaching for 11 years at Swiss Valley Ski Area. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports, dance and school activities.
He is also survived by two daughters, Carin (and spouse Tony) Plothow, Plymouth, and Crista (and spouse Blake) Carpenter Schroeder, Zionsville; a son Craig (and spouse Liz) Carpenter, Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren: Allison (and Shannda Martin), Tyler and Andria Shook; Haley, Reagan, Audrianna and Annaliese Plothow; Grace, Benjamin and Claire Carpenter; two sisters, Marjorie Holderman, LaPaz, and Mary (and spouse Darrell) McIntire, Argos; a brother, Max (and spouse Linda) King, Lapaz; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter Allen Carpenter; a grandson, Samuel Quinn Carpenter; and two brothers-in-law, Louis Holderman and Ray Slick.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 Ind. 331, Bremen. Burial is in Bremen Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
