CROMWELL - The Cromwell town council will hear a proposal for a hog farm operation tonight at 7 p.m. during a meeting at town hall. The farm is a wean-to-finishing pig production facility consisting of one building and 1,000 to 2,000 hogs, proposed in Noble County on CR 200N.
The property is owned by Kevin Davidsen, and his application to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management indicates the building will have a below-building self-contained concrete manure storage, providing a storage capacity of at least one year.
The Wawasee Area Conservancy is concerned with the location of the proposed hog operation and its proximity to Dillon Creek, according to a WACF letter to IDEM's Office of Land Quality.
Dillon Creek has been identified by Harza Engineering as the No. 1 threat to the ecology of the lake. During any significant rain event, a muddy plume of sediment "belches" into the lake.
"A downstream housing development known as Enchanted Hills inherits water resembling chocolate milk from a rapid flowing Dillon Creek during storm events," the letter reads. Cromwell town council members will take comments this evening. The meeting will move to the community building if the town hall's capacity is exceeded.
