There were no surprises in Tuesday's election at the county level as again the Republicans swept all the races in Kosciusko County.
"Obviously," said Mike Gavin, county Republican Party chairman, "we're very grateful what happened in Kosciusko County. It appears the Republicans will sweep here."
He said he was pleased the Republican candidate for Indiana governor, Mitch Daniels, won the state over incumbent Democrat Gov. Joe Kernan and that Kosciusko County voters made their voices heard with their votes. "We came out and delivered for our governor and our candidates."
Daniels received 20,047 votes in Kosciusko County compared to Kernan's 7,885.
Gavin also thanked the volunteers, poll workers and precinct committeemen "for all their hard work in getting out the vote."
Steve Haines, Democratic party chairman, said he had no comment on the election.
The only race at the county level was for the three county council at-large seats. The three men with the most votes will take the three seats and include Tom Anglin, 19,034 votes; Bob Sanders, 18,879 votes; and Larry Teghtmeyer, 18,344 votes, all Republicans.
Votes for the Democrats included Joe Banks, 8,110; Jon Custer, 6,103; and Dan Damron, 5,706.
"I really am humbled," said Sanders. "This is my first time doing this. ... It's pretty humbling, it really is, to get that kind of support."
He said he will keep his promise he made to voters to watch over the "people's money."
Anglin said he expects Sanders to fit right in.
"He's business-oriented and he knows what it is to save the tax dollars, and I think he'll fit right in 100 percent," said Anglin.
Of receiving the most votes of any of the county council candidates, Anglin said, "I just thank the voters and appreciate it. I'll do my best. I'm conservative and I'll watch the tax dollars. Our county's in good condition and we'll keep it right there. And I'm very pleased with the response I got."
Teghtmeyer said of winning, "I just am grateful for all the confidence and trust the voters put in me. I'll work hard the next four years to continue that trust" with good fiscal management and making the county better than it is now. "I appreciate all the support I got."
Other winners at the county level, all unopposed and Republicans, are incumbent Sharon Christner, clerk of the circuit court, 23,762 votes; Kent Adams, county treasurer, 23,473 votes; John Sadler, county coroner, 23,760 votes; incumbent Richard Kemper, county surveyor, 23,389 votes; incumbent Brad Jackson, county commissioner northern district, 23,205 votes; and incumbent Ron Truex, county commissioner middle district, 23,252 votes.
