This is in response to Lynn Miller's letter published Friday Aug. 6, 2010. Although I understand your passion for the humane treatment of animals, Ms. Miller, I must disagree with you on your statement that animals have souls. I love animals and think they should be saved from any mistreatment, but, I do not believe they have souls.
Animals were created by God, and so was Man. However, Man was created in God's own image; thus having a soul that would live forever.
I looked up the Bible verses you listed (Genesis 1:24 and Proverbs 12:10), and there was no reference to a soul for animals. Where you placed the word "soul" in your quote from Genesis, my Bible uses the word "creatures." I even looked it up in the King James Version, as well as the New International Version ... same thing, "creatures."
