Editor, Times-Union: We live in a day when evil is called good and good called evil. Truth does not change. There is still right and wrong, whether those who don't recognize moral absolutes agree or not. I strongly disagree with Mr. Gerard's statement in his editorial last Saturday, stating that “discriminating against gays is no way to attract the best and brightest to Indiana.” (His remarks in reference to adding the definition of marriage to our state constitution). Since when are sodomites the brightest and best, or their supporters called conservative? Acceptance by society of perverse habits does not make those habits good, moral or proper. The U.S. military from colonial days until the era of Bill Clinton, discharged sodomites from the service. Why? Because it is not normal, healthy human behavior. It is no coincidence that the average age at death of sodomites is in the 40s or that AIDS is a big problem for sodomites. Remember Rock Hudson. I happen to have a belief system from the Holy Bible. I believe what God said in the first chapter of the book of Romans, when He describes what sodomites do, with such descriptors as “vile affection,” “against nature” and “men with men working that which is unseemly.” Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. Shall we accept perversity? There are many things at stake here. Sodomites are working to get laws changed so that they can be recognized as married under the law, when all of history teaches us what marriage is. By being recognized as married, then spousal benefits become available to sodomites. Why should sodomites sit home and collect benefits of any sort for a chosen, perverse lifestyle when they are not a dependent at all? My Bible says if a man will not work, neither shall he eat. Conversely, a wife (a woman) carries and bears a child, then stays at home to care for and raise the infant while her husband (a man) works. That makes her a dependent, and the child a dependent. Let us not camouflage someone’s dislike of Christian values, upon which America was built, with the worn out argument that we must have separation of church and state. It reminds me of the Egyptian Pharaoh who said to Moses, “Who is the Lord that I should obey His voice?” We must not throw off the age-old moral codes which have preserved America for hundreds of years through our country’s most valuable institution – marriage, one man married to one woman which brings stability to both parties, their offspring, their community and the nation itself. The claim of discrimination against sodomites because they want to be able to “marry” is really an attack against marriage, family and children, pure and simple. Our elected Indiana officials must not cave into pressure from sodomites or federal judges to accept “gay marriage.” Marriage is a divine institution, and it means only one thing.
