Murder charges have yet to be filed against Ian James Clark, 34, Pierceton.
Clark is being held on a $250,000 bond for aggravated battery, but as of press time today, murder charges have not been filed.
Kosciusko County Coroner John Sadler said the cause of death was "multiple blunt trauma injury" and ruled the death a homicide.
An initial hearing for Clark is scheduled for July 2 at 1:30 p.m. while a pre-trial conference is set for Aug. 2 at 9:30 a.m.
Byron J. Berry has been assigned as a public defender to Clark.
Kosciusko County Dispatch received a 911 call May 25 at 2:01 p.m. from 375 EMS 4 R Lane, Ridinger Lake, Pierceton.
When Deputy Shane Bucher arrived, he found Matara Tell Muchowicz, 21, who advised Bucher her daughter, Samantha Muchowicz, 2, wasn't breathing.
Clark said the girl was injured after a fall.
Bucher began CPR until EMS arrived and transported the child to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 3:40 p.m.
Reports indicate sexual assault may have been involved, though test results to confirm that are still pending.
Clark was not the father of Samantha Muchowicz, but he was the boyfriend of Matara.
