I’d like to thank the members of the community who turned out for the No Kings rally in Warsaw on the 18th. What had been maligned by Republicans as the hate America rally, turned out to be a joyful grassroots affirmation of people power.
No Kings Day was a rousing success because of the millions across the nation who stood up against authoritarianism through nonviolent and lawful means. They tried to paint us as violent extremists, but our love for America and our defense of Democracy won the day. Our rally was proof that to disagree with those in power does not mean you hate your country. It means you love your country so much you're willing and unafraid to speak out about gross abuse of power.
People who attended the rally in Warsaw said they have grown tired of watching Indiana Republicans do nothing while Trump hurts our manufacturing and agriculture businesses with his tariffs, while he uses the military against our own citizens and while he takes away our healthcare. Protesters voiced their discontent with Republicans who have stayed silent while Trump rakes in billions in shady deals, and while he decimates the institutions that many of his own supporters depend upon.
The No Kings rallies showed that people are fed up with Republicans who bow down to a president who brags about crapping all over them. Over 350 protested in Warsaw last Saturday, a number that was verified by Dan Spalding in his reporting. It's clear that every day more voters in our community are waking up to the fact that Republicans are not working to make them great again. They're only working to keep the king happy, and to stay in his good graces. They've seen what happens to people who are disloyal.
