No Injuries In Syracuse Fire WednesdaySYRACUSE – No injuries were reported in a Syracuse house Wednesday night, though at one point a person was believed to have gone into the home and not come back out while it was still burning.
The Turkey Creek Fire Territory responded to a report of a structure fire at 515 Turtle Bay Drive, Syracuse, at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the Turkey Creek Fire Territory on Friday.
Syracuse Police units at the scene reported that flames were visible on the east side of the structure. The police officers at the scene discharged a portable fire extinguisher through a broken window of the structure prior to fire department arrival, although the fire was not extinguished.
Initial reports at the scene upon the fire department’s arrival were that the occupants had exited the structure initially and one occupant had gone back inside of the structure and had not come back out. Firefighters searched the structure for the reported occupant with no occupant located.
The fire was quickly contained and extinguished by firefighters within the first 10 minutes of arrival. The occupant that was reported to be inside of the structure was located and had exited the structure with no reported injury, the news release states.
There was an operational smoke detector inside of the structure that alerted the occupants of the fire. There was an adult, an infant, two children and four family pets that were inside of the structure when the fire began and had exited the structure.
There were no injuries to the occupants, firefighters or the pets as a result of the fire.
The fire was contained to the room where it had started with smoke damage noted throughout the rest of the structure. Damages are estimated to be $20,000 to $30,000, according to the news release.
The owner of the structure is Mickey Wetters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist the occupants with clothing.
The Turkey Creek Fire Territory was assisted at the scene by the Syracuse Police Department.
