No Homeless Shelter For CCS

Posted

Combined Community Services board of directors decided not to proceed with the purchase of the building at 2402 E. Center St., the former ExtendaCare facility, at their monthly meeting Thursday.

Funding requests submitted for the family transition shelter will be withdrawn or, in the case of funds already received, returned.

The board is still considering CCS' role in meeting the needs of homeless families in the county, according to a news release.

Combined Community Services received a use variance for a transitional shelter in a C-3 zoned district from the Warsaw Board of Zoning Appeals July 22.

On another topic, the CCS board decided to maintain hours for CCS North, 16 hours a week (Mondays and Tuesdays) until Sept 30, as requested by the Syracuse Ministerial Association.

In July, it was decided to close the auxiliary branch Aug. 30.

The one-month extension gives the association more time to explore alternatives to serve clients in the northern communities of the county.

Northern community clients represented less than 10 percent of all CCS assistance clients and 50 percent of the total administrative costs.

CCS in Warsaw is at 110 E. Prairie St. For more information about the closing or services, call 269-6019.
