No Gun Control

Editor, Times-Union:

I would like to pass something along, not just to the people covered by the Times-Union, but as I think it is something important enough that the whole country should give it some serious thought as it nears election time.

Being a member of the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association, I attend the matches at the units range a couple of times a year. I meet a lot of people who share the love of firearms and competing in matches and hunting, also, the idea of being able to protect home and family with firearms if the need should arise. A short time ago I had the pleasure of talking to an English gentleman who came to the matches all the way from England to compete. As you may, or may not, know, his government just a few years ago confiscated all modern firearms and made it a crime to own same.

Some of his fellow citizens, and even he, perhaps were able to get some of their firearms to friends or relatives in France. I said I realized the idea for outlawing firearms was to lower the crime rate, but I had read articles saying his country's crime rate had risen significantly after action was taken. He looked me straight in the eye and said without a trace of humor, "That was not done to protect the populace from the outrage of rape, murder, burglary and any other crime that might happen, it was done to protect the government from the people." That reply got my attention quick.

Do you the voter know Obama's thoughts on the Second Amendment? I do, he shares about the same view as the mayor of Chicago and that ain't good. The NRA gives Obama an F.

Think about it, people. This guy and his talk of change scares me big time, and I think people should give it a lot of thought.
